Day 1 of the Elimination Rounds was one for the record books. With a cold front coming in the day prior, dropping the Colorado front range air temps to a 35 degree starting point this morning, and also dropping the water temp to a measly 67 degrees from 72 just a couple days ago, this was a day more suited for archery Elk hunting than it was for a bass fishing tournament!
Of course you follow that up with blue bird skies and we all might as well of stayed at home. Nah! Perfect weather for a tough competition! Although the contestants struggled all day, there were a few bright spots along the way.
Joe Conway was the guy with the most weight in the boat on this day, qualifying him for his shot at the $1000 pot next month! Vince Carpio, considered an underdog in this race, showed he is getting serious by qualifying himself for the Sudden Death Round in his first ever attempt at the Colorado "Challenge Cup."
Brian White is the main story here. He was invited just one day before we kicked off the Elimination Rounds and he needed to find a boat to use...ASAP. Being a new member this year, Brian wasn't sure he could make it happen. Then he was supported by another new member, Ron Strickland, who has been an avid supporter of the club since he joined this year. Ron let Brian use his brand new Ranger boat in this emergency situation and gave Brian the chance he needed to compete. Brian did not waste his last minute blessings and squeaked into 3rd place, qualifying himself for the Sudden Death Round! Congrats to all 3 for making the 1st cut! Now....Day 2 group is up next!
